More About Loretta's Tomes & Tealeaves

Our Story

Hi, I'm Lori and Loretta's Tomes & Tealeaves is my version of the ultimate hang out spot-

comfortable, curious, inviting. A place that can satisfy that need to get away for a bit without going much further than your own backyard.

A place that feels like home but that simultaneously gives you a sense that a new adventure may be waiting to be discovered around each little corner.

Born and raised in Saratoga and Washington counties in upstate NY, I was inspired by my time working in a local public library as a Clerk and Program Coordinator to embark on a journey to incorporate some of the things that brought me and my family joy and that would allow me to bring some to others as well. Shortly after attending a library program focusing on starting your own small business, the idea for Loretta's Tomes & Tealeaves book and teashop was born.

A self proclaimed tea addict, book and nature lover and aspiring bringer of joy, finding a way to incorporate things I'm most passionate about into one small business with lots of big ideas has been a literal dream come true. Fueled by the love of classic stories, new, colorful characters, being in nature, embracing community , and a great appreciation for a warm cup of comfort, I've been creating a collection of items I hope you'll love as much as I do.

Upcycled collectibles, handcrafts and beautiful creations from local arisans are just a few of the things I hope to share with you.

Looking Glass Yoga

After practicing Yoga in some form or another for over 20 years, in 2024 I completed and became a  graduate and certified 200hr Yoga Instructor and Social Emotional Learning facilitator from the Breathe for Change initiative. I'm so very excited to bring the practice of Yoga and other well habits to our communities.

Offering accessible Yoga and meditation classes through my secondary business, Looking Glass Yoga, for people of all ages and abilities I hope to create an accessible and enjoyable introduction to a practice that I believe can benefit everyone.

TnT Trekkers

With the help of our two boys, the last several years we've been leading a no-cost outdoor adventure group, dubbed TnT Trekkers, that serves as a quite literal OUTlet for children and their adults during the Summer months. Facilitating outdoor educational and fun nature-inspired activities helped to satisfy our family's need for getting out and learning while getting dirty. Making new friends and having fun with peers in nature was the icing on the cake!

Originally a youth program  known as 'Library Scouts' created while I working as a Program Coordinator at the local library, I saw an excitement and interest among the families I served who enjoyed the time spent learning and exploring new places and decided to bring the program with us to continue it on our own time. The program still runs the months of July and August each year and it's one thing both the boys can admit they enjoy doing together!

Loretta's isn't your typical book store and tea shop. Not only will you be able find new bestsellers your Book Club is talking about but also those unique literary works, classic favorites and collectible titles you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

I really hope to create a fun, whimsical and loving environment for people to enjoy and find comfort in.

Offering items you may not think to look for but that bring joy to your heart and a smile to your face when you come across them.

Encouraged by my amazing husband and best friend Bruce, I decided to launch a website/store while we continue to conjur up new ideas and create a space that feels like it could do Loretta's justice.

With a fondness for small town, community and collaborations highlighting other local crafters and entrepreneurs, Loretta's is a feeling as much as it is a retail space and I want to be sure when it's time to share space together it's perfectly imperfect and presented accordingly.

In the meantime,  I hope I can enhance your community experiences while bringing a smile to your face and warmth to your heart.

Thank you for visiting!
